X520 Submersible Rotary Position Sensor

The intrinsically safe 350 bar X520 rotary sensor is ATEX and IECEx approved for use in potentially explosive gas/vapour atmospheres. The X520 is an affordable, durable, high-accuracy rotary sensor designed for Marine and Subsea feedback applications.

The X520, like all Positek® sensors, is supplied with the output calibrated to the angle required by the customer, between 15 and 160 degrees and with full EMC protection built in. The sensor provides a linear output proportional with angle of rotation. There is a machined registration mark to identify the calibrated mid point.

It is particularly suitable for OEMs seeking good sensor performance for arduous applications such as subsea ROVs where long term reliability and excellent sealing is important.

Overall performance, repeatability and stability are outstanding over a wide temperature range.

The X520 has long service life and environmental resistance with a rugged 316 stainless steel body and shaft, The flange mounting makes the sensor easy to install. There are a range of electrical options.
Environmental sealing is to IP68 350Bar, 3500 msw, 5000 psi

Positek intrinsically safe sensors are designed to be used with a galvanically isolated amplifier .
Approved galvanic isolation amplifiers (X005) are available from Positek; there is a choice of 0.5-9.5V or 4-20mA transmission outputs.

The sensor can be installed with a cable length up to 1km between the sensor and the amplifier.

Description

Positek X520 Submersible IP68 Rotary Position Sensor is intrinsically safe 350 bar. The rotary sensor is ATEX and IECEx approved for use in potentially explosive gas/vapour atmospheres. The X520 is an affordable, durable, high-accuracy rotary sensor designed for Marine and Subsea feedback applications.

All of Positek’s position sensors are manufactured to the highest quality and use our very own patented non-contact technology. This helps to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and reliability, even in the harshest of environments. Every position sensor that Positek manufactures uses their inductive sensor technology to ensure high-precision results, and is fully customisable to meet the unique requirements of your business.

With over 25 years’ experience as a sensor manufacturer and using our onsite production facility, Positek has the flexibility to manufacture and customise any industrial position sensor, including tilt sensors and inclinometers, to any size or specification.

Positek offers a range of options for its standard sensors. Each sensor is manufactured to suit each customer's preferences. If your requirement is outside the options given below, Positek can modify/ redesign a sensor to suit your specific requirement. Standard options are available as below:

Measurement Range

Factory set to any length from ±7.5° to ±80° in increments of 1°. For example, if your application requires 90° measurement, then Positek will manufacture the sensor specifically for this angular range. The sensor will measure 90° however will still rotate through 360°

Connector

Radial micro wet mate bulkhead and mating connector with 50cm flying head (standard fit).
Mating connector with longer cables available as special.

Intrinsic Safety

ATEX/IECEx approval

The sensor is ATEX/IECEx approved to:
Ex II 1G
Ex ia IIC T4 GA (Ta = -40°C to +80°C).
This designates the sensor as belonging to; Group II: suitable for all areas except mining, Category 1 G: can be used in areas with continuous, long or frequent periods of exposure to hazardous gas (Zone 0). Protection class ia, denotes intrinsically safe for all zones. Apparatus group IIC: suitable for IIA to IIC explosive gas. Temperature class T4: maximum sensor surface temperature under fault conditions 135°C. Ambient temperature range extended to -40°C to 80°C.
Approval only applies to the specified ambient temperature range and atmospheric conditions in the range 0.80 to 1.10 Bar, oxygen <=21%.

Galvanic Isolation Amplifier

Intrinsically safe sensors must be used with a galvanically isolated amplifier with safety parameters not exceeding:- Ui: 11.4V, Ii: 0.2A, Pi: 0.51W.  Sensor can be installed with a cable length up to 1000m maximum from the amplifier, cable capacitance and inductance can be up to:- Capacitance: 200 nF max, Inductance: 810 µH max.

Approved amplifiers are available from Positek; there is a choice of 0.5-9.5V or 4-20mA transmission outputs.
